Championship standings

Norris leads the Drivers’ Championship by one point over McLaren teammate Piastri — a gap that opened only last race, at Mexico City, where Norris moved ahead for the first time since Bahrain. Verstappen is 36 points behind in third. McLaren clinched the Constructors’ Championship at Singapore.

Previous race

Norris won from pole at Mexico City — McLaren’s first victory at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez since 1989 — finishing more than thirty seconds clear of Leclerc and Verstappen. Hamilton received a ten-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage during a battle with Verstappen, dropping him out of podium contention. Bearman finished fourth, equalling Grosjean’s 2018 result as Haas’s joint-best finish in their history.

São Paulo is the fifth sprint weekend of the season.

Pirelli brings the C2, C3 and C4 compounds — designated hard, medium and soft — a step harder than in 2024.

The sole free practice session began five minutes late. Norris topped the timesheets ahead of Piastri and Hülkenberg.
