Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 265 points, 76 ahead of Lando Norris and 103 ahead of Charles Leclerc. Red Bull Racing leads the Constructors’ Championship with 389 points, followed by McLaren (338), who leapfrogged Ferrari (322) into second place.

Previous race

At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri took his maiden Formula One victory, leading a McLaren 1–2 ahead of Norris — the team’s first 1–2 since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton finished third, becoming the first driver to record 200 career podiums.

Penalties

Max Verstappen carries a ten-place grid penalty for exceeding his quota of internal combustion engine components. Yuki Tsunoda is also required to start from the back of the grid for exceeding his power unit element quota. Zhou Guanyu received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Verstappen in Q1.

Sunny conditions are expected for race day.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C2, C3, and C4 tyre compounds — the middle three in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Track changes

The DRS zone leading into turn 5 has been shortened by 75 metres.

Practice

The first free practice session is topped by Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing ahead of Oscar Piastri and Alexander Albon. The second session is topped by Lando Norris ahead of Piastri and Verstappen. The third session is topped by Verstappen ahead of Piastri and Pierre Gasly. Running is curtailed by bad weather, and the session is suspended early after Lance Stroll crashes his Aston Martin at Raidillon, damaging his front-left suspension and front wing.
