2024 Austrian Grand Prix

The Austrian Grand Prix is the eleventh round of the 2024 season, held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 219 points, 69 ahead of Lando Norris and 71 ahead of Charles Leclerc. Red Bull Racing leads the Constructors’ Championship with 330 points, followed by Ferrari (270) and McLaren (237).

Previous race

At the Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen took his seventh win of the season ahead of Norris, with Lewis Hamilton claiming third for his first podium of 2024. Norris moved ahead of Leclerc into second place in the Drivers’ standings.

Sprint format

This is the third of six sprint weekends in the 2024 season. The weekend follows the revised sprint format: a single free practice session and sprint qualifying on Friday, the sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, and the main race on Sunday. Two separate parc fermé periods apply — one for the sprint and one for the Grand Prix.

Entrants

The driver and team line-up is unchanged from the season entry list with no additional stand-in drivers for the race.

Weather

Partly cloudy conditions are expected for race day.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C3, C4, and C5 tyre compounds — the softest three in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Track changes

After the 2023 event saw approximately 1,200 potential track limit violations, the Red Bull Ring has taken significant steps to address the issue. Gravel traps have been installed between the track and run-off areas, some track limits have been moved closer to existing gravel traps, and a contrasting blue line has been painted on the outside of the white track limits line to improve visibility for stewards reviewing possible violations.

Practice

The sole free practice session (in accordance with the sprint format) is topped by Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing ahead of Oscar Piastri of McLaren and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.
