2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

The fourth running of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and seventh round of the 2024 season, held at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola across 17–19 May. The event returns for the first time since 2022 after the 2023 Grand Prix was cancelled due to flooding in the region.

Championship standings

After the Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 136 points, 33 points ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez in second, and 38 ahead of Charles Leclerc in third. Red Bull Racing, with 239 points, leads the Constructors’ Championship from Ferrari (187) and McLaren (124).

Previous race

At Miami, Lando Norris took his maiden Grand Prix victory on his 110th race start — McLaren’s first win since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. Verstappen won the sprint and took pole for the main race but finished second. Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth in the sprint, earning his first points of the season.

Entrants

The drivers and teams are the same as the season entry list. Oliver Bearman drives in the first free practice session for Haas in place of Kevin Magnussen.

Milestones

This is the 300th entry and Grand Prix start for Mercedes as a Formula One constructor.

Partly cloudy conditions are expected for race day.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C3, C4, and C5 tyre compounds — the softest three in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively. The tyre compounds are one set softer than the previous edition of the race.

Practice

FP1 is topped by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, with George Russell and Carlos Sainz Jr. behind him. A brief red flag is observed after Alexander Albon ends his session on track due to mechanical failure. Red Bull Racing is fined €1,000 after Sergio Pérez breaches the pit lane speed limit by 8.9 km/h. FP2 is topped by Leclerc ahead of Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda. FP3 is topped by Piastri ahead of his teammate Lando Norris and Sainz. Two red flags are observed after Fernando Alonso and Pérez both collide with the wall; Pérez’s crash occurs during the closing minutes, disallowing further timed laps for most drivers.
