2024 Miami Grand Prix

The third running of the Miami Grand Prix and sixth round of the 2024 season, held at the Miami International Autodrome across 3–5 May. This is the first time the event features the sprint format.

Championship standings

After the Chinese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 110 points, 25 points ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez in second, and 34 ahead of Charles Leclerc in third. Red Bull Racing, with 195 points, leads the Constructors’ Championship from Ferrari (151) and McLaren (96).

Previous race

At Shanghai, Verstappen won both the sprint and the main race from pole position. Lando Norris took sprint pole in a rain-affected sprint qualifying session and finished second in the main race. Fernando Alonso retired from the sprint with a puncture after a collision with Carlos Sainz Jr.

Entrants

The drivers and teams are the same as the season entry list with no additional stand-in drivers for the race.

Penalties

Daniel Ricciardo of RB carries a three-place grid penalty for overtaking Nico Hülkenberg under safety car conditions at the preceding Chinese Grand Prix.

Weather

Partly cloudy conditions are expected for race day.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C2, C3, and C4 tyre compounds — the middle three in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Practice

The only free practice session is topped by Max Verstappen ahead of Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz Jr. A red flag is called early when Charles Leclerc spins out at turn 16 and is unable to move. Aston Martin is fined €400 after Lance Stroll exceeds the pit lane speed limit.

Sprint qualifying

Max Verstappen takes sprint pole position for Red Bull Racing, joined by Charles Leclerc on the front row. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez qualifies third, with Daniel Ricciardo joining him in fourth — RB’s best result of the season. Lando Norris, who set the fastest lap in SQ1 and SQ2, qualifies ninth after struggling with tyres. Valtteri Bottas is handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri in SQ1. Alexander Albon is required to start the sprint from the pit lane due to suspension changes during parc fermé.
