2024 Bahrain Grand Prix

The 20th running of the Bahrain Grand Prix and the opening round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship, held at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Entrants

The 2024 season features a record 24 races, beginning with this event held across 29 February to 2 March. There are no driver changes from the end of the 2023 season — the first time in Formula One history that every driver and team combination carries over unchanged. The Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, 2 March, at 18:00 local time. This is the first season-opener to start on a Saturday since the 1982 South African Grand Prix. The Saturday scheduling complies with regulations requiring a minimum of one week between Grands Prix, as the following Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is also moved forward to Saturday to avoid a conflict with the start of Ramadan, expected on 10 March. The event also marks the 20th anniversary of the first Bahrain Grand Prix, held in 2004. The drivers and teams are the same as the season entry list with no additional stand-in drivers for the race.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C1, C2, and C3 tyre compounds — the three hardest in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Practice

Three free practice sessions are held. FP1, on Thursday afternoon, is topped by Daniel Ricciardo of RB ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, both of McLaren. FP2, on Thursday evening, sees Lewis Hamilton lead a Mercedes one-two ahead of George Russell, with Fernando Alonso third for Aston Martin. FP3, on Friday afternoon, is topped by Carlos Sainz Jr. of Ferrari, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing.
