2024 Spanish Grand Prix

The Spanish Grand Prix is the tenth round of the 2024 season, held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló.

Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 194 points, 56 ahead of Charles Leclerc and 63 ahead of Lando Norris. Red Bull Racing leads the Constructors’ Championship with 301 points, followed by Ferrari (252) and McLaren (212).

Previous race

At the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen won his seventh race of the season for his 60th career victory. A Ferrari double DNF widened the gap significantly at the top of both championships.

Entrants

The driver and team line-up is unchanged from the season entry list. Oliver Bearman drives in the first free practice session for Haas, in place of Nico Hülkenberg.

Penalties

Sergio Pérez carries a three-place grid penalty for failing to leave the track with serious mechanical difficulties after significantly damaging his rear wing at the preceding Canadian Grand Prix.

Weather

Clear conditions are expected for race day.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C1, C2, and C3 tyre compounds — the three hardest in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Track changes

The DRS zone leading into turn 1 has been shortened by 100 metres.

Practice

The first free practice session is topped by Lando Norris of McLaren ahead of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr. The second session is topped by Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes ahead of Sainz and Norris. The third session is topped by Sainz ahead of Norris and Charles Leclerc. During FP3, Leclerc and Lance Stroll impede Norris and Hamilton respectively in separate incidents, with contact occurring in both cases; both drivers receive reprimands for erratic driving.
