2024 British Grand Prix

The British Grand Prix is the twelfth round of the 2024 season, held at the Silverstone Circuit.

Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 237 points, 81 ahead of Lando Norris and 87 ahead of Charles Leclerc. Red Bull Racing leads the Constructors’ Championship with 355 points, followed by Ferrari (291) and McLaren (268).

Previous race

At the Austrian Grand Prix, George Russell took victory for Mercedes — the team’s first win since the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix — after Verstappen and Norris collided while fighting for the lead with eight laps remaining. Verstappen recovered to fifth while Norris retired. Oscar Piastri finished second and Carlos Sainz Jr. third.

Entrants

The race driver line-up is unchanged from the season entry list. In the first free practice session, four rookie drivers participate: Oliver Bearman stands in for Kevin Magnussen at Haas, Franco Colapinto replaces Logan Sargeant at Williams (making his Formula One practice debut), Jack Doohan drives instead of Pierre Gasly at Alpine, and Isack Hadjar takes over Sergio Pérez’s car at Red Bull Racing.

Penalties

Sergio Pérez starts from the pit lane after replacing power unit elements without technical delegate approval.

Weather

Intermittent rain is expected during the race.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C1, C2, and C3 tyre compounds — the three hardest in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.

Practice

The first free practice session is topped by Lando Norris of McLaren ahead of Lance Stroll and Oscar Piastri. The second session is topped by Norris ahead of Piastri and Sergio Pérez. The third session is topped by George Russell of Mercedes ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Norris.
