Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship by 38 points from Charles Leclerc in second, with Sergio Pérez a further 19 points behind in third after the Austrian Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing leads Ferrari by 56 points and Mercedes by 122 in the Constructors’ Championship.

Previous race

Leclerc won Austria after overtaking Verstappen three times on track. Verstappen had won the sprint race. Sainz retired with a power unit issue; Hamilton finished third.

Milestones

Lewis Hamilton starts his 300th Formula One race. He joins Rubens Barrichello and Fernando Alonso as only the third driver to reach the milestone.

Entrants

Nyck de Vries drives for Mercedes in place of Lewis Hamilton during FP1. Robert Kubica drives for Alfa Romeo in place of Valtteri Bottas in the same session.

Track changes

The end of the pit lane speed limit zone has been moved from the last team garage to the actual pit exit, adding an estimated 3.5 to 4 seconds to every pit stop.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C2, C3, and C4 compounds (hard, medium, soft).

Practice

The race weekend is held during the 2022 European heat wave, with high temperatures expected through Sunday. The first two practice sessions took place on Friday 22 July and the third on Saturday 23 July.
