Championship standings

Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship by 46 points from Sergio Pérez in second, with Charles Leclerc a further three points behind in third after the Canadian Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing leads Ferrari by 74 points and Mercedes by 114 in the Constructors’ Championship.

Previous race

Verstappen won Canada ahead of Sainz and Hamilton. Leclerc, starting from the back after exceeding his power unit component quota, climbed to fifth. Pérez retired on lap 8 with gearbox failure; Schumacher also retired with technical problems.

Milestones

This is the 73rd British Grand Prix. It is Carlos Sainz Jr.’s 150th Formula One race start.

Pirelli brings the C1, C2, and C3 compounds (hard, medium, soft).

Practice

Rain before and during FP1 kept most teams in the garage for much of the session; the track began drying only in the final minutes. Stroll spun at turn 9 and became beached in the gravel, bringing out a red flag that ended the session. Bottas was fastest ahead of Hamilton and Sainz.

FP2 was dry throughout with no incidents. Sainz topped the session ahead of Hamilton and Norris. Vettel’s Aston Martin picked up floor damage but returned to the pits safely.

FP3 was also clean. Verstappen was fastest ahead of Pérez and Leclerc.
