Championship standings

Both championships are decided. The final race settles an intense three-way battle for sixth in the Constructors’ Championship: Toro Rosso leads by four points over Renault, which leads Haas by two. Fourth in the Drivers’ Championship is also unresolved — Ricciardo leads Räikkönen by seven points.

Previous race

At Interlagos, Vettel won after taking the lead on the opening corner from Bottas. The top four — Vettel, Bottas, Räikkönen, Hamilton — finished within 5.5 seconds of each other. Hamilton started from the pit lane after crashing out of qualifying in Q1 and ran a long first stint to work his way into contention, ultimately finishing fourth. Russell appeared in FP1 on his Formula One début.

Entrants

This is the final Formula One race for Felipe Massa, who retires from Formula One and moves to Formula E. Massa scored 11 wins, 16 pole positions, 15 fastest laps, 41 podiums, and 1167 career points over his F1 career. It is also the last race for Pascal Wehrlein, who returns to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.

Practice

Vettel set the fastest lap in FP1, just over a tenth ahead of Hamilton, with Verstappen close behind. Hamilton went quickest in FP2, followed by Ricciardo. Hamilton retained fastest times in FP3: after Räikkönen improved at the half-way point of the session, Hamilton responded again to finish with a margin of almost three-tenths over Bottas in second, and over half a second ahead of both Ferraris. Red Bull set fifth and sixth; McLaren seventh and eighth.
