Revson took his first Grand Prix victory at Silverstone, with Peterson second and Hulme third. The race was stopped after Scheckter spun across the track at Woodcote on the first lap, triggering an eleven-car pile-up that eliminated the entire Surtees works entry along with several others. Andrea de Adamich was trapped in his Brabham for thirty minutes with a broken ankle. Stewart spun off while challenging Peterson on lap 6 and finished tenth, a lap down; Fittipaldi retired with transmission failure.

Between-race developments

De Adamich’s Formula One career is over following his Silverstone injuries. Rolf Stommelen joins Brabham as his replacement.

Entrants

Ferrari have withdrawn from Zandvoort to concentrate on upgrading their car, having played no part in the championship standings so far this season.

Track changes

Zandvoort returns to the calendar after a one-year absence for extensive safety upgrades: new asphalt, new barriers, a revised circuit layout, and a new race control tower.

Practice

Fittipaldi crashed in Saturday practice when his left front wheel broke on the start-finish straight, badly bruising both ankles.
