Championship standings

Piastri leads the Drivers’ Championship with 216 points, fifteen ahead of Norris and sixty-one ahead of Verstappen in third. Ferrari and Mercedes are separated by just one point in the Constructors’ — 210 to 209 — for second place.

Previous race

Norris won in Austria from pole for McLaren’s first victory at the Red Bull Ring since 2001. Piastri finished second, Leclerc third. Antonelli and Verstappen both retired on the first lap after Antonelli locked up and hit Verstappen at the opening corner, triggering a safety car; it was Verstappen’s first retirement since the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. Red Bull failed to score any points — their first blank since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. Bortoleto scored the first championship points of his career in eighth.

Penalties

Kimi Antonelli carries a three-place grid penalty for causing the collision with Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Milestones

Silverstone hosts its 60th Formula One Grand Prix this weekend, having previously hosted 58 editions of the British Grand Prix and the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020.

Entrants

Arvid Lindblad replaces Tsunoda at Red Bull Racing in FP1, and Paul Aron replaces Hülkenberg at Sauber — both making their Formula One practice debuts.

Pirelli brings the C2, C3 and C4 compounds — designated hard, medium and soft.

Practice

Hamilton topped FP1 ahead of Norris and Piastri. Norris led FP2 ahead of Leclerc and Hamilton. FP3 was topped by Leclerc ahead of Piastri and Verstappen. Two red flags were shown in FP3: one for carbon fibre debris on circuit, and another after Bortoleto spun and beached his car with his front-left suspension broken in the closing minutes. Bearman also spun entering the pit lane during the red flag period and struck the barriers, losing his front wing; he received a ten-place grid penalty for failing to drive safely back to the pits under red flag conditions.
