Championship standings

Hamilton leads Bottas by 63 points. Mercedes leads Ferrari by 154 in the Constructors’. Both championships will remain led by the current leaders after the race regardless of the result.

Previous race

Leclerc won Italy from pole, Ferrari’s first win at Monza since Fernando Alonso in 2010. He held off Hamilton for the full race distance in a tense battle; Hamilton locked up at turn 1 late in the race, allowing Bottas through to second. Ferrari’s third consecutive race win. Albon finished sixth for Red Bull on his second appearance with the team.

Entrants

Haas enters this race without Rich Energy as title sponsor. The sponsorship agreement was terminated following off-track disputes and legal issues.

Track changes

A third DRS zone has been added between turns 13 and 14 along the Esplanade Drive, with the detection point before turn 13.

Practice

In FP1, Leclerc retired early in the session, and Bottas suffered a snap of oversteer that sent him into the barriers at turn 19, bringing out a red flag. Verstappen topped the timing sheets, 0.167 seconds ahead of Vettel.

In FP2, Albon lost his front wing after locking up and hitting the wall at turn 10. Hamilton topped the session, 0.184 seconds clear of Verstappen, with Leclerc 1.245 seconds further back. The Ferrari drivers were reportedly frustrated after encountering numerous traffic incidents.
