Hamilton leads Bottas by 65 points. Mercedes leads Ferrari by 145 in the Constructors’.

Previous race

Leclerc won Belgium from pole — his first Formula One victory and the first for a Monégasque driver. The race was overshadowed by the death of Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert the previous day, following an accident in the Feature Race. Leclerc, a long-time friend of Hubert, dedicated the victory to him. The podium finishers did not spray champagne in respect. Hamilton and Bottas completed the podium; Albon finished fifth on his Red Bull debut after starting 17th.

Practice

FP1 was affected by rain. Leclerc was fastest, ahead of Sainz and Norris. The session was red-flagged three times: Räikkönen spun and got stuck in the gravel at turn 11, Pérez crashed at the exit of turn 10, and Gasly beached his car on the kerbs at turn 2.

FP2 ran dry for the first hour before rain arrived. Leclerc was again fastest, with Hamilton second and Vettel third.

FP3 was delayed and shortened by 10 minutes following an accident in the supporting Formula 3 race. Vettel topped the session ahead of Verstappen and Bottas.
