Championship standings

Hamilton leads Bottas by 41 points. Mercedes leads Ferrari by 148 in the Constructors’. Both championships will remain led by the current leaders regardless of this weekend’s result.

Previous race

In Germany, a wet and incident-filled race from a standing start saw heavy attrition throughout. Verstappen won. Vettel recovered from last place — he had started at the back after a gearbox penalty and failing to set a qualifying time — to finish second. Kvyat came third for Toro Rosso after switching to slick tyres late in the race. Post-race, both Alfa Romeos were given 30-second time penalties for use of driver aids at the start, which elevated Hamilton and Kubica to ninth and tenth; the latter was Williams’s first — and what would prove to be their only — point of the 2019 season.

Entrants

This is the final race for both Gasly at Red Bull Racing and Albon at Toro Rosso before they swap teams from Belgium onward. Red Bull have confirmed the change will take place ahead of the next round.
