Championship standings

Lewis Hamilton leads Sebastian Vettel by twenty-four points in the Drivers’ Championship. Mercedes lead Ferrari by ten points in the Constructors’.

Previous race

Hamilton won in Hungary from pole, seventeen seconds clear of Vettel. Verstappen retired on lap 5 with an engine failure. Räikkönen completed the podium in third.

Between-race developments

Force India went into administration during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. A consortium led by Lawrence Stroll purchased the team’s racing assets through a company named Racing Point UK Ltd. The original Sahara Force India entry has been excluded from the Constructors’ Championship, as it is unable to participate in remaining races. A new team, Racing Point Force India, has applied for a late entry and will make its championship début here. The new team starts with zero constructor points, though Pérez and Ocon retain the drivers’ points they scored under the previous entry.

Entrants

Lando Norris, McLaren’s reserve driver, replaces Fernando Alonso during the first practice session, making his first appearance at a Grand Prix weekend.
