At Hockenheim, Piquet won, with Senna second and Mansell third. Prost ran out of fuel in the closing laps, dropping from third to sixth, extending Mansell’s championship lead to seven points.

Circuit

The Hungaroring, constructed outside Budapest, hosts the first Hungarian Grand Prix since 1936 and the first Formula One race ever held behind the Iron Curtain. An attendance of 200,000 spectators is expected from across the Eastern Bloc — which would set a new Formula One attendance record.
