Championship standings

Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship with 100 points, 20 ahead of Russell and 41 ahead of Leclerc. Mercedes lead the Constructors’ with 180 points, 70 ahead of Ferrari and 86 ahead of McLaren.

Previous race

At Miami, Antonelli won his third consecutive race ahead of Norris and Piastri. Verstappen spun off at the Turn 1 exit kerb at the start, dropping to tenth. Liam Lawson hit Pierre Gasly at Turn 17, flipping the Alpine into the barriers. Post-race, Leclerc was handed a drive-through penalty converted to 20 seconds for repeatedly leaving the track, and Verstappen received a five-second penalty for crossing the pit exit white line.

Sprint format

The Canadian Grand Prix features the sprint format for the first time. It is the third sprint weekend of the 2026 season.

Milestones

This is the 55th running of the Canadian Grand Prix as a round of the World Championship, and the 45th time held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C3, C4, and C5 compounds — the softest three in their range — designated hard, medium, and soft respectively.
