Vettel leads Hamilton by one point — the narrowest gap of the season so far. Mercedes leads Ferrari by fifty-five points in the Constructors’ Championship.

At Silverstone, Hamilton dominated for his fifth British Grand Prix win, equalling the records of Jim Clark and Alain Prost. He achieved a grand slam — pole, every lap led, fastest lap, and a fourteen-second winning margin. Both Ferraris suffered tyre failures in the final laps: Räikkönen punctured on lap 49, losing second to Bottas but retaining third; Vettel’s blowout came on lap 51 with almost a full lap remaining to the pits, dropping him from second to seventh. The result cut Vettel’s championship lead to just one point.

Entrants

Williams reserve driver Paul di Resta replaces Felipe Massa for qualifying and the race. Massa was unwell and dizzy during the weekend and, although cleared by medical staff for FP3, did not recover sufficiently to continue.

Practice

Ricciardo went fastest in FP1 at 1:18.486, ahead of Räikkönen and Hamilton. Ricciardo also topped FP2, followed by Vettel and Bottas. FP3 was headed by Vettel at 1:17.017 — the fastest time of the weekend — with Räikkönen second and Bottas third.
