Championship standings

Both championships are decided in Adelaide. Schumacher leads the Drivers’ Championship with 92 points; Hill is one point behind on 91. Williams lead the Constructors’ Championship with 108 points; Benetton are five behind on 103.

Previous race

At Suzuka, Hill won in torrential rain to close the gap to one point. The race was stopped on lap 13 after Gianni Morbidelli crashed at the Esses; Martin Brundle spun at the same spot moments later and, as he bounced off the barriers, struck a track marshal attending to Morbidelli’s car — the marshal suffered a broken leg. The result was determined on aggregate time. Schumacher had led by 6.8 seconds when the red flag was shown; Hill pitted for fuel on the restart and Schumacher had to make a second stop, giving Hill a 3.3-second aggregate win. Alesi finished third.

Between-race developments

Jean-Denis Délétraz replaces Érik Comas at Larrousse for this final round. Domenico Schiattarella returns to Simtek after Taki Inoue’s one-race deal at Suzuka. Peter Sauber has confirmed a deal with Ford to supply engines to the team for 1995.

This is the final Formula One race for Team Lotus — seven-time Constructors’ Champions and one of the most successful constructors in the sport’s history.
