Championship standings

Senna leads the championship after winning both Brazil and the European Grand Prix at Donington. Prost, who won the season opener in South Africa, sits second. Prost has taken pole position at all three races so far this season.

At Donington Park in the wet, Senna produced one of the drives of the season — passing four cars in a single opening lap, taking Schumacher, Wendlinger, Hill and then Prost through the Melbourne Hairpin to lead before the end of lap 1. He made four pit stops in the changing conditions against Prost’s seven, and lapped the entire field except Hill, winning by over a minute. Barrichello ran as high as second on the road before retiring with fuel pressure problems.
