Championship standings

Clark leads the championship after back-to-back wins at Zandvoort and Spa. Hill remains close, though retirements have interrupted his rhythm.

At Spa, Gurney led most of the race and broke the lap record multiple times, building a 40-second advantage — but ran out of fuel without realising it. Hill took the lead as Gurney slowed, only to retire with a failing fuel pump on the final lap. McLaren was then on course for second until his engine cut out with less than a kilometre to go, the car rolling towards the downhill finish as Clark swept by to win. McLaren crossed second, Brabham third. Clark ran out of fuel on his cool-down lap and was brought back to the pits seated on his teammate’s engine cover.
