Verstappen leads with 119 points, 14 ahead of Pérez and 44 ahead of Alonso in third. Red Bull lead the Constructors’ with 224 points; Aston Martin are second with 102, Mercedes third with 96.

Previous race

At Miami, Verstappen started ninth after Leclerc’s crash in Q3 ended the session prematurely, then carved through the field to overtake Pérez on lap 47 and win. Pérez and Alonso completed the podium. McLaren recorded their first double Q1 exit since the 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Between-race developments

This is Monaco’s place on the calendar after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, scheduled as Round 6, was cancelled on 17 May due to severe flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

Mercedes bring to Monaco an upgrade that introduces sidepods to the W14’s “zero-pod” design — changes originally intended for Imola. Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and Alpine also bring upgrade packages to the circuit.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C3, C4, and C5 compounds — designated hard, medium, and soft. The new full wet tyre, designed to reduce safety cars and red flags in wet conditions, makes its racing debut this weekend.

Practice

Sainz tops the first session ahead of Alonso and Hamilton. Hamilton’s session ends early when his Mercedes has to be craned from the circuit — requiring a red flag — at the hairpin. Verstappen tops both the second and third sessions; Leclerc is second in FP2, Pérez and Stroll complete the top three in FP3.
