Championship standings

After Verstappen and Hamilton collided on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix, Verstappen’s championship lead was cut to eight points. Norris is third, 64 points behind Hamilton. Bottas is fourth, five points behind Norris. Mercedes have closed the Constructors’ gap to four points behind Red Bull. McLaren occupy third, 122 points behind Mercedes but 15 ahead of Ferrari.

At Silverstone, Hamilton started sprint qualifying from pole but Verstappen overtook him before the first corner and won the sprint, taking pole for the Grand Prix. On lap 1 of the race, Hamilton and Verstappen collided at Copse at approximately 290 km/h; Verstappen was beached in the barriers. Hamilton was given a ten-second penalty, which he served during his stop. He fought back through the field to win ahead of Leclerc, who had led most of the race. Hamilton’s victory cut Verstappen’s championship lead from 33 points to eight.
