Championship standings

After the Styrian Grand Prix, Bottas leads the championship by 6 points from Hamilton, with Norris a further 11 points behind in third. Mercedes leads the Constructors’ Championship with 80 points, McLaren second with 39, Red Bull third with 27. Racing Point fourth with 22 points, Ferrari fifth with 19 following a double retirement at the Styrian Grand Prix.

Previous race

Hamilton dominated the Styrian Grand Prix in wet conditions from pole to win ahead of Bottas and Verstappen. Ferrari suffered a double retirement. George Russell reached Q2 for the first time in his career — the first Williams driver to do so since the 2018 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Between-race developments

After the Styrian Grand Prix, Renault launched a protest against the brake ducts of Racing Point’s RP20, alleging they were copied from the Mercedes W10 used in 2019.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the C2, C3, and C4 compounds, the same selection used at both Red Bull Ring races.

Practice

Lewis Hamilton topped the first practice session, followed by Valtteri Bottas, then Sergio Pérez and Lance Stroll of Racing Point. Pierre Gasly was unable to set a lap time due to power unit issues.

The second session was run in the wet. Sebastian Vettel went fastest for Ferrari, ahead of Bottas and McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr. Only 13 drivers set a time. The third session ended with Bottas fastest ahead of Hamilton and Pérez.
