Alonso leads the championship on 129 points after the British Grand Prix. Webber is second on 116, Vettel third on 100, Hamilton fourth on 92, and Räikkönen fifth on 83. Alonso’s lead over Webber stands at 13 points; over Vettel at 29.

Webber won at Silverstone ahead of Alonso and Vettel — Red Bull’s second win of the season and Webber’s second in a row. Hamilton retired from sixth place. Alonso’s lead was trimmed to 13 points.

Penalties

Grosjean, Rosberg, and Webber each carry five-place grid penalties for unscheduled gearbox changes. Pérez has a five-place penalty for impeding Alonso and Räikkönen during qualifying at the previous round.

Tyre choices

Pirelli brings the white-banded medium compound as the prime and yellow-banded soft as the option. The DRS is used at Hockenheim for the first time, with the detection zone at Turn 4 and activation 260 metres further down the circuit.
