In Brazil, Reutemann won Ferrari’s second consecutive victory at Interlagos, with Hunt recovering from a pit stop to take second and Lauda third after Watson crashed out. Pace, running at his home circuit, encountered difficulties and could not repeat his Argentina podium.

Practice

The first two timed sessions were wet. Only a dozen cars ventured out in the opening session, with Hans-Joachim Stuck quickest despite having to abort with an oil pressure problem. Eighteen cars took part in the second wet session, with Tom Pryce fastest in his Shadow despite brake issues. Three drivers did not participate in either session: Patrick Depailler, Renzo Zorzi (engine), and Boy Hayje.

The third and deciding session was dry. James Hunt claimed his third consecutive pole position, with Carlos Pace alongside him on the front row. Niki Lauda qualified third despite a broken seat and tyre problems, next to Depailler. Mechanical difficulties were widespread throughout the field during practice.
