Championship standings

Hunt won in France but, before this race, the Spanish Grand Prix appeal has been resolved in McLaren’s favour — Hunt is reinstated as winner. That restores nine points to his tally and adjusts the championship standings ahead of Brands Hatch.

Previous race

Hunt won at Paul Ricard with Lauda second, then Lauda’s Ferrari engine failed. Regazzoni’s Ferrari also retired with an engine failure shortly after. Depailler finished second for Tyrrell and Watson third for Penske — the team’s first podium.

Entrants

Brands Hatch hosts the British Grand Prix this year, under the alternating arrangement with Silverstone. The Brands Hatch layout has been modified from the previous year — Paddock Hill, the Cooper Straight, and Surtees corners have all been slightly altered. The pit lane has been extended and corners renamed after racing drivers and teams.

Both Lella Lombardi and Divina Galica are entered this weekend. This is Galica’s Formula One debut. If both qualify, it would be the first time two female drivers have started a World Championship race; no other Grand Prix has had multiple female entrants.

This is the 50th Grand Prix start for Shadow.
