At Dijon, Peterson won from second on the grid after Lauda dropped back with handling problems. Lauda recovered to finish second, Regazzoni third despite vibration. Fittipaldi was closing on Regazzoni for third when his engine exploded, ending his race. Tom Pryce, who had qualified an impressive third, was collected at the start by Reutemann and retired.

Circuit

The British Grand Prix moves from Silverstone to Brands Hatch, continuing an event-sharing arrangement between the two venues.

Entrants

Mike Wilds, John Nicholson, and Lella Lombardi make their World Championship debuts — Lombardi the second woman to enter a Formula One World Championship race. This is also the final Formula One race for 1971 Italian Grand Prix winner Peter Gethin. It is Tyrrell’s 50th Grand Prix start and the 25th for the Iso-Marlboro entered by Frank Williams.

Milestones

This weekend marks the 100th World Championship Grand Prix start for an Austrian driver, and the 50th for a South African driver.
