Championship standings

Clark leads the championship after his victory in Belgium, having levelled Hill’s Monaco advantage. Hill, Ginther, McLaren, and Gurney follow, with the title picture still open through the early rounds.

Previous race

At Spa, Clark started eighth despite ongoing gearbox problems carried over from Monaco. He passed all seven cars ahead before the first corner was reached. Racing in extremely wet conditions, Clark drove one-handed through the high-speed sections whenever fifth gear was needed to keep his gear lever engaged — and eventually chose to skip fifth altogether and run four gears. His margin over McLaren at the flag was almost five minutes.

Entrants

The Dutch Grand Prix is organised a month later than in 1962, now the third round of the championship. Ludovico Scarfiotti makes his World Championship debut for Ferrari, and German driver Gerhard Mitter also enters the field for the first time.
